You can always count on the Rotary Club of Ponte Vedra Beach for a great party. The April 12 Mineral City Celebration, “Peace, Love & Rotary,” did not disappoint. In keeping with a Hippie ’60s theme, folks wore beads, tie-dyed T-shirts, Beatles wigs and flowers in their hair. Club President Will Montoya and Go-Go dancers greeted guests outside the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, where there was a cigar bar, contests, prizes, a DJ, a silent auction and photo ops beside a “groovy” VW Beetle. The BeatleBeat Tribute Band performed as the Ed Sullivan Beatles and again as the Sgt. Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band. About 550 people attended the event, and Jaguars’ announcer Brian Sexton was emcee and auctioneer.
GreenPointe Holdings CEO Edward Burr was honored for his commitment to local civic causes and charities, such as Episcopal School of Jacksonville, Fresh Ministries and the Monique Burr Foundation for Children, a nonprofit he founded that is dedicated to preventing bullying and child abuse. The Monique Burr Foundation was a beneficiary of the affair. In keeping with the Mineral City theme, event chairman Michael Bruce pointed out that “Burr is a rock of our community.”
