About

The Foundation

The Monique Burr Foundation for Children (MBF) is a nonprofit organization started by Edward E. Burr in 1997 on the one-year anniversary of the death of Monique Burr, his late wife, to continue her legacy of child protection and child advocacy. This year, MBF is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and although our strategies may have changed over the years, our core mission has remained the same – protecting children through prevention education.

Research shows that child victimization is preventable through education, which is why we created our prevention education programs. Our elementary school, middle school, and after-school programs educate and empower students and all relevant adults with information and strategies to prevent, recognize, and respond appropriately to bullying, cyberbullying, all types of child abuse, digital abuse, and other digital dangers.

To date, MBF has trained over 8,000 facilitators who have implemented our prevention education programs with almost 10 million students in schools throughout Florida and the United States and internationally.

What They're Saying...

The MBF Child Safety Matters program is impressive. This important information is well formulated and well presented, developmentally appropriate, and based on good understanding of literature.

The MBF Teen Safety Matters curriculum hosts an in-depth approach to important social and safety concerns relevant to youth. The program content is age-appropriate with engaging activities, jargon, and realistic situations to positively promote a relatable and impacting learning experience…Teen Safety Matters is an educational benefit to all parties involved – students, parents, facilitators, and schools.

I heard about the program through my son. He came home…and showed me the safety rules. I cannot thank the Foundation enough; to have other people who are also concerned about my child’s safety and the safety of other kids is wonderful. I especially like the program’s focus on the prevention side.
